ECU Sport Management student - Steven Rose

I followed my interests to find the perfect course.

I have always had a love of sports, so when I was first looking at university courses, Sport Management at ECU stood out straight away.

The best part of my course is the industry practice which lead to a position in a resort pro-shop and as their events assistant.

You gain hands-on experience in a range of different fields and can learn so much more than you would just in a classroom. I am constantly learning and able to apply it when I'm out there working in the real world.

Undergraduate - Sport, Tourism, Hospitality & Management

All sport, tourism and hospitality management courses recognise the importance of complementing specialist knowledge with practical experience.

That's why every course includes a professional placement to give students hands-on experience in an industry of their choice.

Not only do they undertake a project that benefits an organisation, students also build networks that can lead to exciting job opportunities.

ECU Surf Science graduate - Brodie Cotter

Managing sport and events

More than $90 billion is spent annually on sport and recreation pursuits in Australia, providing for a vast range of employment opportunities for graduates in this field.

The new Bachelor of Event, Sport and Recreation Management provides students with the essential knowledge, skills and professional attitudes required by various levels of management in the sport, event and recreation industries.

Hot degrees

Hospitality students at ECU immediately put their classes to practice in our on-site commercial training restaurant.

Students get first hand experience of every aspect of running a successful hospitality business. They are responsible for menu design, buying, food production, service and getting paying customers through the door of ECU's Degrees Brewery Restaurant.

Recognised by industry

ECU is one of only three universities in Australia to have its tourism and hospitality courses accredited by the Institute of Hospitality Management.

This body is an international professional management association for managers in the hospitality and tourism industries.

ECU Surf Science gave me an understanding of the surf industry and the contacts to land a dream job.

ECU Surf Science graduate Brodie Cotter works with Surfing WA in their development and planning team organising key surfing events in WA.

"The degree gave me an insight into what is required to run a surf comp. I learned about every aspect of a competition including judging, sponsorships and beach marshalling," Brodie says.

"These days it's important to have a professional attitude and appearance. The surfing industry has changed from when it was just surfers running it. There are all kinds of people involved in the field and the industry itself is becoming more professional."

ECU Tourism graduate - Inger Paez

Determination can get you anywhere.

ECU Tourism graduate Inger Paez has her dream career thanks to her Tourism Management qualification.

"Tourism Management at ECU exceeded all my expectations and has opened doors for me to land an exciting career with Tourism WA. I seized every opportunity to network with people in industry while on my final year work placement at the Tourism Council of WA," Inger says.

As well as taking up opportunities for networking provided by the course, Inger made the most of all opportunities provided by the practical components of the course.

"A field trip to Monkey Mia during my university studies provided me with a valuable insight into the eco-tourism industry and the ability to view first hand the many attractions our state has to offer," she says.
