Nursing, Paramedicine & Midwifery
We have the largest undergraduate nursing program in WA. When you study nursing with us, you will be studying at the university which is a forerunner in health care simulation and scenario based learning across health disciplines.
We are passionate in finding better ways to educate nurses, midwives, medical practitioners and health professionals.
Our well qualified staff and world class facilities position us as the premium provider of nursing qualifications in WA.
World of possibilities
Nursing offers a challenging and rewarding career in health care.
It's a career which provides unlimited potential for those wishing to provide holistic care in a wide range of settings.
Nursing is the pathway to realising your dream of working in a range of international locations.
There is continuing strong labour demand and employment growth in the regions. State shortages exist in nursing, mental health, midwifery, critical and intensive care, operating theatre, emergency and aged care.
Leading the market in education excellence
Our new Centre of Excellence in Healthcare Simulation and demonstration areas housed in the new Health and Wellness building on the Joondalup Campus provides a safe authentic environment for clinical skills development.
The simulation suites can be configured to different settings such as operating theatres, consulting rooms, wards, birthing suites and intensive care.
Each suite has cutting edge recording and interactive audio-visual facilities and its own set up/debriefing rooms and observation areas.
A partnership with the WA Academy of Performing Arts provides actors to perform the roles for scenarios so students can feel the realistic and practical nature of the situation.
Paramedical Science - accreditation first
We were the first university in Australasia to undergo a site visit and attain provisional accreditation of its Paramedical Science degree by the Interim Paramedic Education Programs Committee.
The accreditation was awarded by the Council of Ambulance Authorities and the Australian College of Ambulance Professionals.
Enrolled Nurse Registration Pathway Program
We were the first Western Australian University to launch an Enrolled Nurse Registration Pathway Program.
Our nursing students may apply to undertake additional modules mid-point in their three year undergraduate course and, if successful, can obtain eligibility to register as an Enrolled Nurse allowing them to work in the health care system in their spare time as Registered Enrolled Nurses whilst completing their studies.
Centre for Excellence in Healthcare Simulation recognised for innovation
Our Centre for Excellence in Healthcare Simulation was awarded the Innovation in Nursing Award for Western Australia at the recent Australian Nursing Awards. The Australian Nursing Awards were introduced last year to honour and recognise nurses, graduate nurses and nursing innovations that make a difference.
The Innovation in Nursing Award recognises our commitment to producing competent graduates through healthcare simulation and scenario-based learning innovations using actors.
Head of School, Professor Cobie Rudd, and team leader, Associate Professor Christopher Churchouse, are now hoping to expand the library of scenarios to include specialist areas such as Alzheimer's care, youth suicide, domestic violence and drug and alcohol issues.
