International Award for ECU Student Team

Boomerang@ECU Team with Diane Slade

Following on from their success last year in winning the prestigious International Advertising Association (IAA) Dentsu InterAd XI Global Student Competition, the Boomerang team has now been selected as the 2007-08 Student Chapter of the Year by IAA.

Boomerang@ECU is made up of School of Communications and Arts students, studying advertising, public relations and design courses. The team has been guided by Diane Slade, the School's Advertising Course Co-ordinator.

The Director of Educational Programs and Alliances at IAA advised that the reviewers were particularly impressed with the Chapter's mission statement and its success in carrying out its programs. Its mission is driven by ECU's core values of Integrity, Rational Inquiry, Respect and Personal Excellence; combined with those of the IAA. Its programs include Learn from Leaders, The Big Trip Study Tour, and the compilation of the ECU Advertising All Stars Resume Book.

ECU Professor selected for Australia 2020 Summit

Associate Professor Marilyn Clark-Murphy

ECU's Head of the School of Accounting, Finance and Economics, Associate Professor Marilyn Clark-Murphy, has been selected to participate in the Australia 2020 Summit.

The Summit will be held at Parliament House, Canberra on 19 and 20 April. It will bring together a diverse and talented range of Australians to tackle the long term challenges confronting Australia's future. One hundred participants have been selected in 10 critical areas that address all facets of Australian society.

Professor Clark-Murphy has been selected to contribute her expertise to the critical area of Future Directions for the Australian Economy.

Degrees Brewery Restaurant

Desserts from Degrees Brewery Restaurant

Degrees Brewery Restaurant is a training restaurant based on ECU's Joondalup Campus. Degrees offers restaurant meals at cafe prices and is staffed by students from the University's Hospitality Management programs. Students gain invaluable workplace experience while also fulfilling curriculum requirements as they staff and operate a working restaurant.

Menus have been created by Chef and School of Marketing Tourism Lecturer, David Donovan, using locally sourced produce wherever possible. The restaurant is licensed and has wine and other beverages available at very reasonable prices.

ECU Alumni and ECU Lecturers featured in FotoFreo Festival

FotoFreo is a biennial international festival of photography. It showcases the work of photographers to generate an awareness of and a discussion about their work. Photographic works by several ECU alumni and ECU staff are featured in exhibitions, including:

  • I Like Roses - a tribute to the life and work of ECU alumnus, Allan Radich
  • Hijacked - curated by ECU Alumnus, Mark McPherson
  • Landlines - features work by School of Communication and Arts Photomedia lecturers Kevin Ballantine, Duncan Barnes, Max Pam and Norm Leslie

New Engineering Courses for 2009

The School of Engineering and Mathematics has introduced three new undergraduate Engineering courses. The courses will be accepting students from 2009 onwards.

Bachelor of Engineering (Civil)
Bachelor of Engineering (Electrical Power)
Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical)

ECU courses speak for themselves

ECU Research showcased on Perth TV

Academics from ECU will be showcasing their research on Perth TV over the coming months.

Dr Martin Masek, Professor Rob Newton and Dr Beth Walker will be making guest appearances on Wake Up! WA during April, to explain their research and discuss the impact of their work. A number of other researchers including Professor Donna Cross, Dr Alfred Tan and Professor Kamal Alameh will also be appearing on the program over the coming months.

Wake Up! WA is Perth's only local breakfast TV show, screening on Channel 31 at 7.00am, and repeated at 10.30am, each weekday. Visit the program website for more information: www.wakeupwa.com.au .
